The Monthly Wrap-Up sends on the last Friday of each month and is the site's broadest newsletter, pulling one highlight from each major site section — buying guides, maintenance, comparisons, news & trends, and community — into a single roughly 5-minute read. It's the default newsletter for new subscribers who haven't picked specific topic lists yet, and every section links onward to that month's fuller coverage or the relevant specialized newsletter (Budget Digest, EV Update, etc.) for readers who want to go deeper on one topic.

Why a broad monthly recap still matters
Not every subscriber wants to manage 6 separate topic-specific lists — some just want one email a month that tells them what mattered across the whole site. The Wrap-Up exists for that reader: broader and shallower than our specialized newsletters by design, and explicitly positioned as a discovery tool that can lead someone to opt into a more specific list afterward.
Standard section lineup
| Section | What it highlights |
|---|---|
| Buying & Consumer Guides | The month's most-read or most useful buying guide |
| Maintenance & DIY | One practical seasonal maintenance tip |
| Comparisons & Rankings | A notable comparison or ranking published that month |
| News & Trends | One evergreen trend-watch explainer relevant right now |
| Community highlight | A pull from the Community Verdict Newsletter's biggest result |
How this differs from our specialized newsletters
Every other program on our calendar — Budget Digest, EV Owners Update, Insurance & Finance Tips — goes deep on one topic at its own cadence. The Wrap-Up trades depth for breadth: one paragraph per section rather than a full digest, with a link into the deeper specialized content for anyone whose interest is piqued. It functions partly as a menu for the rest of our email programs.
Onboarding role
Every new subscriber starts on the Monthly Wrap-Up by default until they visit the Email Preference Centre and choose more specific lists. This keeps new subscribers engaged with a broad, low-commitment cadence rather than either overwhelming them with every list at once or losing them before they've discovered content relevant to their interests.
Section highlights are chosen for genuine reader relevance and engagement (traffic, helpful votes, comments), not to favor sponsored or partner content — the same editorial independence standard applies here as sitewide.
Production process
- Each section owner nominates their month's highlight by the 20th of the month.
- The newsletter editor reviews for balance — no single section dominates two months running.
- Draft assembled and fact-checked against the 48-hour review deadline shared across all our email programs.
- Sent on the last Friday of the month at a fixed time, consistent month to month.
Mistakes we avoid
- Letting one section (often News & Trends) dominate every issue at the expense of others.
- Making the Wrap-Up so broad it duplicates specialized newsletters instead of teasing them.
- Leaving new subscribers stuck on this list indefinitely without ever prompting them to set specific preferences.
