Rated vs. unrated: the safety line you should never cross
A recovery shackle must carry a stamped working load limit (WLL) from a known manufacturer — generic hardware-store shackles are typically rated for static lifting loads, not the dynamic shock loads of vehicle recovery, and have caused serious injuries when they fail under snatch-strap tension. Steel shackles: bow vs. D-shape
Bow shackles have a rounded body that allows connections from multiple angles, useful when rigging isn't perfectly straight-line.
