Who can comment
Commenting is open to any reader with a verified True Motion Auto account. We require verification (a confirmed email address) rather than open anonymous posting because it measurably cuts down spam and sockpuppet accounts, which is the single biggest quality problem on automotive comment sections.
Posting rules
- One account per person — duplicate accounts used to inflate votes or repost removed content will be merged or suspended.
- Display names may not impersonate True Motion Auto staff, other brands, or dealerships.
- Comments containing two or more external links are automatically queued for manual review before publishing.
- All-caps comments, excessive punctuation, and known spam phrases are filtered automatically.
Editing and deleting your own comments
You can edit a comment for 15 minutes after it's posted, which covers fixing typos or rephrasing without letting people rewrite a comment after replies have already been made to it. After that window, the comment is locked; if you need to correct something substantive after 15 minutes, post a follow-up reply instead. You can delete your own comment at any time — deletion is permanent and can't be undone by our team.
How reported comments are handled
Any reader can report a comment using the in-line "Report" link. A comment is automatically hidden from public view once it collects reports from three separate accounts, pending a human review by our community team. This threshold is high enough to resist a single user mass-reporting an opponent, but low enough to catch genuinely abusive content quickly.
Review timing
Reported comments are reviewed within two business days. If a comment is restored after review, the reader who posted it is notified; if it's removed permanently, it counts as a strike under our Community Guidelines.
Comments on older articles
To reduce spam on articles that no longer get much traffic, commenting automatically closes on articles older than 18 months. The content and existing comments remain visible; you just can't add new ones. If you have a question about an older guide, use the "Ask an editor" link at the top of the article instead.
Comments are public and indexed by search engines. Don't include personal information (VIN numbers, phone numbers, full addresses) in a comment — use our Contact Us page for anything you don't want publicly searchable.
