True Motion Auto is a static publication: it has no reader accounts, comment threads, forums or submission forms, so there is nothing to moderate on the site itself. These guidelines cover the social channels we post to and the email we receive. In those places we remove or report spam, personal attacks, harassment, and claims that are dangerously wrong about vehicle safety, and we escalate anything unlawful to the platform. To raise something with us directly, email info@truemotionauto.com.
Where these guidelines apply
Worth being precise, because the scope is narrower than the page title implies. This site does not host comments, forums, question threads, reviews or any other reader-submitted content. There is no account to create and no field to post into. Discussion of our work therefore happens in two places: on the social platforms we publish to, and by email.
These guidelines describe how we behave in those places and what we will act on. They sit alongside each platform's own rules, which take precedence in their own space.
What we welcome
- Corrections. Genuinely the most valuable thing anyone sends us. If we published a wrong figure or an out-of-date rule, we want to know, and we would rather hear it bluntly than not at all.
- First-hand ownership experience. Specific accounts of what a car actually did, at what mileage, and what it cost. This is information we cannot get from a test drive.
- Disagreement with the argument. Reasoned objection to a conclusion is the point of publishing one.
- Questions. Including ones with obvious answers. Somebody else has the same question and has not asked it.
- Market-specific detail. Our coverage spans several countries and readers routinely know more about their own market's rules than we do.
What we remove, hide or report
| Behaviour | What we do |
|---|---|
| Spam and undisclosed commercial promotion | Reported and blocked using the platform's tools. No reply, because a reply gives it reach. |
| Personal attacks and harassment | Hidden or reported. This applies to attacks on other readers, on our staff, and on named third parties. |
| Discriminatory abuse | Reported. There is no threshold at which this is a debate worth having. |
| Dangerously wrong safety claims | Corrected publicly with a source, because leaving it unanswered is worse than a slightly awkward exchange. Repeated after correction, it is treated as bad faith. |
| Doxxing or posting personal information | Reported immediately, including registration plates and identification numbers belonging to other people. |
| Impersonation of our staff or the publication | Reported to the platform. |
On links and self-promotion
A link to your own blog, channel or build thread is fine when it is relevant to the discussion and you say it is yours. What is not fine is undisclosed commercial promotion — a business, a product or a service presented as a personal recommendation. Disclosure rules in several markets require material connections to be stated, and beyond the legal point it is the thing that determines whether anyone can weigh what you said.
We do not delete comments on our own social posts because they are critical of our work, our conclusions, or a specific article. Criticism is removed only where it breaks a platform rule or the law — abuse, doxxing, spam. If we get something wrong we would rather the correction sat in public underneath the mistake.
What you should expect from us
- We answer safety questions and factual corrections first, ahead of anything else.
- Where we are wrong, we fix the article and say what changed rather than editing quietly.
- We reply in the publication's name. We do not use undisclosed accounts, and we do not present staff replies as independent readers.
- We do not give individual mechanical, financial, insurance or legal advice, because we do not have the details and are not qualified to assess them.
- We keep public disagreements short and substantive, and we do not argue with someone who has corrected us accurately.
Raising something with us
For a correction, a question, or anything you would rather not raise in public, email info@truemotionauto.com or use the contact page. Accessibility barriers go to accessibility feedback. Our standards for accuracy and corrections are published in the editorial policy and fact-checking standards, and how we handle correspondence is covered in the privacy policy.
