Abandoned Wishlist Email Flow: How True Motion Auto Follows Up on Saved Cars

A three-email sequence that reminds you about saved vehicles without turning into spam.

Notifications Personalisation and CRM Region: Global Updated July 2026 By the True Motion Auto editorial team
Quick answer

When you save a vehicle to your wishlist but don't return within 48 hours, True Motion Auto sends up to 3 reminder emails over 9 days: a same-model recap (Day 1), a comparison/incentive nudge (Day 4), and a final check-in with any price or availability change (Day 9). The sequence stops the moment you view, remove, or contact a dealer about the car, and you can turn it off entirely from the Preference Centre without losing your saved list.

Why the flow exists

Shoppers routinely save cars while comparing options across tabs, dealers, and days. Left alone, most saved vehicles are simply forgotten — not because the shopper lost interest, but because life got in the way. The abandoned wishlist flow is a narrow, time-boxed reminder system, not a pressure campaign: it exists to resurface a car you already chose to save, with any new information attached, then get out of the way.

How the sequence is built

  1. Day 1 — Recap email. Sent 24-48 hours after the save if no return visit. Shows the vehicle's photo, trim, and the nearest verified-in-stock dealer.
  2. Day 4 — Comparison nudge. Surfaces up to 2 similar trims or model years in the same budget band, plus any manufacturer incentive that applies. This step is skipped if you've already opened the Day 1 email and clicked through.
  3. Day 9 — Final check-in. Notes any price, availability, or incentive change since the save, and asks a single question: keep it on the wishlist, or archive it. No email is sent after Day 9 for that vehicle.

What stops or restarts it

The sequence halts immediately if you view the vehicle page again, remove it from your wishlist, request a dealer quote, or unsubscribe from marketing email. It does not restart automatically — saving the same car again after Day 9 opens a fresh 9-day cycle, capped at once every 30 days per vehicle to prevent repeat nagging on a car you've clearly decided against.

Frequency limits and suppression

  • Maximum of 3 wishlist-flow emails per vehicle, per 30-day window.
  • Counted against your overall marketing-email cap (see the Push Notification Style Guide and Preference Centre Page for shared limits).
  • Automatically suppressed if you're already mid-sequence on a Price Drop Alert or Saved Search Alert for the same vehicle, so you never get two emails about one car on the same day.

This flow only runs for accounts that opted into marketing email at signup or in the Preference Centre. It uses first-party wishlist activity only — no third-party ad-tech list is involved — and every email carries a one-click unsubscribe that is honored within 10 business days, in line with FTC CAN-SPAM guidance. Turning this flow off does not delete your saved vehicles; it only stops the reminder emails.

Watch out

If a saved vehicle is sold or delisted by the dealer, the flow substitutes the closest available match rather than emailing about a car you can no longer buy — but it will say clearly that the original listing is gone.

Frequently asked questions

How many emails will I get if I abandon a saved car?
Up to three, spread across 9 days, and never more than three per vehicle in any 30-day period.
Can I stop wishlist reminder emails without deleting my saved cars?
Yes. Turn off "Marketing & offers" in the Preference Centre; your saved vehicles stay in My Garage.
Will I still get emails if the price hasn't changed?
The Day 1 and Day 4 emails go out regardless of price; only the Day 9 email is conditional on a real change worth flagging.
Does saving a car again restart the countdown?
Yes, but the same vehicle can't trigger more than one full sequence per 30 days.
Is this the same as the Price Drop Alert?
No — Price Drop Alerts are opt-in and price-triggered; the wishlist flow is time-triggered and runs independently, with suppression logic so you don't get both on the same day.
