Why a rolling window instead of an all-time leaderboard
An all-time leaderboard tends to freeze near the top once a handful of early, highly active members build an insurmountable lead — which discourages everyone who joins later. A rolling 30-day window means last month's top scorer starts each new cycle on equal footing with a brand-new member, as long as both keep participating.
How points are calculated
- Each quiz question is tagged easy (1 pt), medium (2 pts), or hard (3 pts) based on how often the community answers it correctly during testing
- A correct answer submitted within 10 seconds adds a +1 speed bonus, capped at one bonus point per question
- Wrong answers earn zero points but do not subtract from your score
- Points from all quiz formats (EV Knowledge Quiz, Guess the Car Quiz, live trivia night events) combine into one running total

Anti-cheating and fairness rules
Quizzes pull from a rotating question bank rather than a fixed daily set, so answers can't simply be shared or memorized ahead of time by people who took the quiz earlier. Multiple accounts by the same person attempting the same quiz repeatedly are flagged and excluded from ranking — the system checks device and session patterns, not just usernames.
Only your best attempt per unique quiz counts toward your score, not the sum of every retry — retaking a quiz to "grind" points doesn't inflate your rank.
What the leaderboard does and doesn't affect
Leaderboard rank is separate from Garage Guru badge tiers, though quiz points do contribute a small, capped amount to overall Garage Guru points. Leaderboard placement carries no monetary reward — it's a bragging-rights and community-recognition feature, consistent with the rest of our gamification approach, which avoids pay-to-win or purchase-linked incentives.
How to check your standing
Your current rank, points, and days remaining in the active 30-day cycle are shown on your profile even if you're outside the public top 50. There's no cost or subscription required to participate or to view your own standing.
