The anti-SUV
The Berlingo is what happens when you optimise for family life instead of fashion: a van-derived MPV with sliding rear doors, a 775-litre boot in the five-seat M body, an XL version whose third-row seats remove entirely, and overhead Modutop storage that treats the roof as a cupboard. The 2024-facelifted range runs £24,205–£29,995 in petrol and diesel forms, with the ë-Berlingo (52kWh, 136PS, 220 miles WLTP) from £31,135, and the seven-seat electric XL from £32,035.
Powertrains stay simple: a 110hp 1.2 petrol manual, 100/130hp 1.5 diesels (the 130 with an eight-speed auto), or the EV. Petrol and diesel returned after a brief EV-only UK interlude — buyer demand spoke.
The honest assessment
Nothing at the price carries people and stuff with less friction: the sliding doors alone win school-run arguments, the Advanced Comfort seats genuinely cosset, and What Car? and Top Gear routinely crown its space-per-pound unmatched. The bills are equally clear: it drives like the van it is — wind noise, roll, drab steering — the cabin is functional rather than fancy, and the e-Berlingo's price walk over ICE versions is steep for 220 miles.
No current-generation Euro NCAP rating exists (the 2018 test has lapsed), which sits oddly against its family brief — the kit list, at least, covers the modern essentials.
The questions buyers actually ask
Berlingo or a 7-seat SUV? If you actually use seats six and seven and carry buggies/bikes/dogs, the Berlingo humiliates SUVs twice its price. If image matters, you already know the answer.
Diesel still? For motorway-mile families, the 130 auto diesel remains the honest tool — 50+mpg and effortless range.
ë-Berlingo maths? Only with home charging and mostly-local miles; the ICE versions are the value core.
- £24,205–£29,995 ICE; ë-Berlingo from £31,135 (220 miles)
- 775-litre boot (M), removable third row (XL), sliding doors

- Van-like refinement; no current NCAP rating
- Rivals: Vauxhall Combo Life, Ford Tourneo Connect, Dacia Jogger
