The Curvv exists because Tata decided India was ready for a mainstream SUV-coupe — the sloping-roof silhouette that European brands charge a premium for, priced against the Hyundai Creta. That drama-first positioning shapes everything about the car — including its compromises. This is the rare Tata where you should sit in the back seat before you fall for the styling.
Four ways to power one body
Few cars in India offer this much powertrain spread. The ICE range runs a 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol of around 120 PS, a stronger 1.2-litre GDI turbo-petrol at about 125 PS, and the familiar 1.5-litre diesel with 118 PS — with a 6-speed manual or Tata's 7-speed DCA dual-clutch automatic depending on engine. The EV offers 45 kWh and 55 kWh batteries, the larger pack producing 165 bhp and a claimed 585 km MIDC range (the smaller pack claims about 502 km; treat both as optimistic against real-world driving).
The dual-clutch deserves an honest caveat: it can be jerky in crawling traffic, a criticism that has followed Tata's DCA since launch. If your commute is bumper-to-bumper, test it at exactly that speed.
Safety is the headline
Both the Curvv and Curvv EV carry 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings, with six airbags and ESC standard from the base variant up. Top trims add Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof, and the EV brings V2L and V2V charging — your car can power appliances or rescue another EV. For a family buyer weighing the Curvv against older rivals, the safety file is a genuine differentiator.
The honest assessment
The Curvv's styling is its reason to exist, and on the road it still turns heads in a way a Creta never will. But the roofline takes real space: rear headroom trails the boxier Creta and Seltos, and the cabin's software has drawn the familiar Tata complaints — occasional touchscreen glitches, and service experiences that vary more by dealer than they should.
Buy it for the design, the safety and the powertrain choice. Cross-shop carefully if you regularly carry tall adults in the back.
The questions buyers actually ask
Curvv EV or a Creta Electric? The Curvv EV's price-to-range ratio is strong — a sub-₹20 lakh top trim with a 585 km claim undercuts most rivals spec-for-spec. Drive both; the Tata counters the Hyundai's polish with range and V2L tricks.
Is the diesel worth it? If you run high monthly kilometres, the 1.5 diesel remains the running-cost pick and the only diesel in the coupe-SUV space. For city-first use, the GDI turbo-petrol is the sweeter drive.
Does the coupe roof ruin practicality? Not the boot — it swallows luggage fine. It's rear headroom for six-footers where you'll notice the style tax.
