As our road safety investigation documented: India recorded 172,890 road deaths in 2023 — twenty every hour, with more than two-thirds of victims aged 18 to 45, and a 177% increase since 2005 while road deaths fell across most of the developed world.

How to read the ratings

Bharat NCAP — India's own assessment programme, testing to Indian conditions and requirements.

Global NCAP — the international programme whose Indian testing has driven substantial improvement across the market.

Both publish adult occupant protection and child occupant protection scores separately — and for a family car, both matter. A car scoring highly for adults and poorly for children is not a good family vehicle.

Electronic stability control, which prevents loss of control rather than mitigating a crash.

The number of airbags and their positions.

Tata's range generally — as our Indica retrospective traced, Tata's transformation from early quality problems to genuine safety leadership took roughly two decades, and it's now among the strongest arguments for the brand.
