The packaging miracle
Nothing else in India seats seven under ₹10 lakh. The Triber's party trick — a sub-4-metre footprint hiding genuinely modular three-row seating (row three removes entirely) — got its due polish in the July 2025 facelift: new badging, smoked lamps, an 8-inch touchscreen, auto climate, traffic-sign recognition and six airbags standard. GST 2.0 then cut up to ₹80,195 from the sticker, setting the range at roughly ₹5.76–8.37 lakh across Authentic, Evolution, Techno and Emotion trims.
The mechanical package is the known quantity: 1.0-litre, 72PS, 96Nm, 5-speed manual or AMT (top trim, +₹52,000), returning about 19 kmpl ARAI.
The honest assessment
Judged as maximum-family-per-rupee, the Triber remains unanswered — school runs, joint-family duty, weekend cargo flexibility, all at hatchback cost. Judged as a machine: 72PS is the whole story. Seven aboard on an incline is an exercise in planning; the AMT compounds the leisure. There's no turbo (the engine bay was designed for one that never came in facelift form), no CNG factory option, and the pre-facelift 4-star Global NCAP result awaits a BNCAP refresh.
Buyers match the tool to the load: city-speed family logistics, yes; loaded expressway touring, no.
The questions buyers actually ask
Triber or Ertiga? The Maruti is bigger, stronger and CNG-capable — at ₹3-4 lakh more. The Triber's case is doing 80% of the job for 60% of the money.
Manual or AMT? Traffic-bound drivers take the AMT and adjust expectations; everyone else keeps the manual and the control.
Is 72PS genuinely enough? For flat-city family duty at Indian urban speeds — yes, honestly. For ghats and highways loaded — plan overtakes like appointments.
