New Review Notification System: Getting Told When a Real Review Drops

How alerts for expert and verified-owner reviews are triggered, batched, and kept spam-free.

Notifications Personalisation and CRM Region: Global Updated July 2026 By the True Motion Auto editorial team
Quick answer

You're notified when a new expert review publishes for a model you follow, or once at least 3 verified-owner reviews accumulate since your last notification — whichever comes first — rather than a separate email per single owner review. Delivery defaults to a weekly roundup, with an instant option available per model, and every notified review must meet True Motion Auto's verified-purchase or verified-ownership standard.

Why owner reviews are batched

Popular models can accumulate dozens of owner reviews a week. Emailing for every single one would overwhelm the feature and train people to ignore it, so owner reviews are batched into groups of 3 or more before a notification fires; expert reviews, being far less frequent, notify individually.

What qualifies as a review that can trigger a notification

  • Reviews from True Motion Auto's editorial team, always eligible.
  • Owner reviews tied to a verified purchase or a verified VIN match, per the FTC's guidance on authentic endorsements.
  • Reviews that have passed standard moderation (see Comment Moderation Notification Flow for the underlying process).

Unverified or guest reviews are visible on the site but never trigger a notification, to keep the alert meaningful rather than just "someone posted something."

Delivery options

The default is a weekly roundup combining any qualifying reviews across all your followed models. You can switch a specific model to instant delivery — useful if you're actively deciding on that model — while leaving the rest on the weekly cadence.

Turning it off

Review notifications can be disabled per model (unfollow that trigger specifically) or globally from the Preference Centre, independent of other Follow triggers like price or recall alerts for the same model.

Watch out

Because owner reviews are batched, there can be up to a 7-day delay between a review posting and you being notified about it if it doesn't hit the 3-review threshold on its own that week.
