Hyundai Palisade Buyer's Guide: The Hybrid Changes the Whole Argument

The redesigned 2026 Palisade adds a 329-hp hybrid rated up to 34 mpg with a 619-mile range — from $43,660, gas from $38,935. Where it beats the Telluride and Grand Highlander, and the one engine to think twice about.

Bigger, plusher, and finally electrified

Hyundai's three-row flagship enters its second generation for 2026 grown in every dimension — more third-row room, more cargo, more presence — and, for the first time, with a hybrid. The range opens at $38,935 for the gas SE (before roughly $1,495 freight) and tops out at $57,775 for the Calligraphy Hybrid, with all-wheel drive a $2,000 option on most trims.

The lineup logic is simple: a 287-hp 3.5-liter V6 carries the traditional models, while the Palisade Hybrid pairs a 2.5-liter turbo four with electric drive for 329 hp — more power than the V6, transformed economy.

The hybrid is the story

Rated at up to 34 mpg combined in front-drive form (29–31 with AWD or bigger wheels) and good for a 619-mile tank range, the hybrid roughly doubles the V6's around-town efficiency while towing what most families tow. It's offered broadly — Blue SEL through Calligraphy — rather than rationed to top trims, and it undercuts the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid's equivalent grades on price.

The V6, by contrast, is merely adequate: down slightly on power versus the old 3.8, thirsty at about 21 mpg combined, and the version you buy because inventory or budget says so, not because it's the better car.

The honest assessment

The new Palisade's cabin is the class's quiet luxury play — twin 12.3-inch displays, extensive standard driver assistance, genuinely plush upper trims — and both layouts (7- or 8-seat) treat the third row as a real seat rather than a penalty box. Towing reaches 5,000 lb.

The caveats: pricing has crept well past the first generation's value positioning; the hybrid's popularity means availability and dealer markups can be tight in some regions; and as with every redesign, the first model year of a new platform and new hybrid system carries unproven-tech risk — though Hyundai's related hybrid hardware elsewhere has behaved well.

The questions buyers actually ask

Palisade Hybrid or Grand Highlander Hybrid? The Toyota holds the proven-powertrain card; the Hyundai counters with more standard kit per dollar and the nicer cabin. Spec both at your real budget — the Hyundai usually reads a trim richer.

Is the V6 worth buying at all? If the deal is right and your annual mileage is low, it's a fine, smooth engine. At 12,000+ miles a year, the hybrid's fuel savings mount quickly.

Seven or eight seats? Captain's chairs make the second row the best in the house and ease third-row access; the bench maximizes capacity. Families with car seats usually land on captains.
