Mahindra XUV 3XO Buyer's Guide: The 5-Star Value Assault

5-star Bharat NCAP, three engines, a Level-2 ADAS suite and now an EV from ₹13.89 lakh — the XUV 3XO spans ₹7.79–15.04 lakh and fights everything. Full guide.

Mahindra's small-SUV statement

The XUV 3XO arrived in 2024 swinging: segment-first panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, dual 10.25-inch screens, and — the anchor — a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating (29.36/32 adult, 43/49 child). GST 2.0 then cut prices by ₹70,700–₹1.56 lakh, setting the ICE range at ₹7.79–15.04 lakh, with the budget-focused REVX series from ₹8.94 lakh. Early 2026 completed the family: the XUV 3XO EV (39.4kWh, 150PS, ~285 km real-world claim) from ₹13.89 lakh, replacing the XUV400 and aiming squarely at the Nexon EV.

Engines cover every base: 1.2 turbo-petrols in ~111PS and 130PS TGDi tunes, and a 117PS 1.5 diesel, with manuals, torque-converter ATs and an AMT on diesel.

The honest assessment

The 3XO's pace (the TGDi is properly quick), ride-handling maturity and safety file make it arguably the segment's strongest all-rounder on paper — and post-GST pricing turned strong into aggressive. The press's consistent niggles: cabin plastics and ergonomic quirks below the flagship-feature glitter, ordinary NVH from the diesel and AMT, and a boot whose shape blunts its volume. Rear visibility drew criticism too.

The EV inherits the structure's stars and undercuts the segment's established electric choice — its bet is value and warranty against Tata's charging-ecosystem head start.

The questions buyers actually ask

3XO or Nexon? The eternal head-to-head. The Tata counters with its own 5 stars and EV maturity; the Mahindra answers with ADAS, the sunroof and turbo pace. Feature-priorities decide.

Which engine? The 130PS TGDi with the AT is the enthusiast-family sweet spot; the diesel serves high-milers; REVX serves budgets.

3XO EV or Nexon EV? The Mahindra's newer hardware and price undercut; the Tata's ecosystem and track record reassure. Test both charging apps before choosing.
