GMC Acadia Buyer's Guide: Grown Back Into a Genuine Three-Row Contender

GMC Acadia Buyer's Guide: Grown Back Into a Genuine Three-Row Contender

The Acadia returned to full size in 2024 — 328 hp, a 15-inch screen and up to 8 seats from $43,800 to $65,100. Where it beats Pilot and Grand Highlander, the missing hybrid, and trim advice.

Right-sized, at last

GMC spent a generation apologizing for shrinking the Acadia; the 2024 redesign — unchanged in essentials for 2026 — un-shrunk it emphatically. Nearly ten inches longer than before, today's Acadia is a full midsize three-row with one of the segment's biggest cargo holds and third rows adults can actually inhabit. The range runs $43,800 (Elevation FWD) to $65,100 (Denali Ultimate AWD) across Elevation, AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate.

One powertrain serves all: a 328-hp, 326-lb-ft turbocharged 2.5-liter four with an eight-speed automatic, front- or all-wheel drive, and a 5,000-lb tow rating. The AT4 adds standard AWD with off-road tuning and all-terrain rubber.

The screen-forward cabin

A 15-inch portrait touchscreen anchors every trim, with Super Cruise hands-free driving available — tech generosity that outpoints Honda and Toyota rivals at equal money. Seating runs up to eight (seven in Denalis), and the Denali trims layer in the brand's convincing near-luxury treatment.

Economy lands at 23 mpg combined front-drive, 21 for the AT4 — competitive for pure gas, but the segment's center of gravity has moved: Grand Highlander and Pilot rivals offer hybrids; the Acadia has no electrified option at all.

The honest assessment

The four-cylinder's torque is genuinely stout — it out-pulls most base V6s — but its soundtrack under load is agricultural for a $60,000 Denali, a mismatch between price theater and engine note. Screen-heavy controls introduce their share of menu-diving, and as a new generation its long-term record is short (early builds drew scattered infotainment complaints, not established as systemic; the prior generation was average).

Against the Traverse platform-mate, the calculus mirrors Yukon/Tahoe: same bones, GMC trim, GMC price.

The questions buyers actually ask

Acadia or Traverse? The Chevy is the value; the Denali treatment is the reason to pay GMC money. Below Denali trim, cross-shop hard.

Does the missing hybrid matter? At 12,000 miles a year, a Grand Highlander Hybrid saves hundreds annually. If economy tops your list, this isn't your aisle.

Is the AT4 real off-road kit? Soft-road real — traction modes, tires and stance for trailheads and snow, not rock crawling. For most families that's exactly right.

  • 15-inch screen standard, Super Cruise available — class-leading tech
  • No hybrid option; engine note undercuts the Denali price theater
