The Ertiga in a better suit
The XL6 is Maruti's premium retelling of the Ertiga: same excellent bones, but six seats only — second-row captain chairs as the whole identity — plus Nexa styling and trim. The range spans ₹11.57–14.37 lakh ex-showroom across Zeta, Alpha and Alpha+ trims, made a few percent cheaper by GST 2.0's MPV recategorisation.
Power comes from the 1.5-litre K15C mild-hybrid petrol (103PS) with a 5-speed manual or — the version to buy — a proper 6-speed torque-converter automatic, returning about 20.3–21 kmpl. The CNG variant (87PS, manual-only) claims 26.32 km/kg for the running-cost obsessed.
The honest assessment
The XL6's case is comfort-per-rupee: those captain chairs genuinely transform long trips for four adults plus two kids, the 6AT is smooth in a segment of AMT compromise, and Maruti economics — service, efficiency, resale — underwrite it all. The concessions: 103PS is modest fully loaded, there's no diesel and no 7-seat flexibility (that's the Ertiga's job), the feature list is ageing against the newer Kia Carens Clavis, and no independent crash rating exists for the current car.
Families who always travel six-or-fewer and value second-row comfort over third-row access are exactly who this was built for.
The questions buyers actually ask
XL6 or Ertiga? Same mechanicals. Bench-and-flexibility (and lower price) = Ertiga; captain-chair comfort and Nexa trim = XL6. Count your regular passengers.
XL6 or Carens? The Kia offers more features, layouts and a diesel; the Maruti counters with efficiency, the mild-hybrid AT and resale strength. Feature hunters go Kia.
Petrol AT or CNG? High city mileage without highway urgency: CNG's economics win. Everyone else: the 6AT petrol is the version that feels premium.
