India's cheapest 5-star SUV story
The facelifted Magnite is one of the sharpest value plays in the compact-SUV class: ₹5.65–11.13 lakh ex-showroom, six trims, and — the headline — a 5-star Global NCAP adult-protection rating for the facelift, a result most pricier rivals can't match. Nissan builds it in Chennai and exports it to more than 65 markets, which tells you how much rides on this one car.
The powertrain menu
The 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol (72 PS) with manual or AMT covers the budget end — honest city transport, breathless beyond it. The car worth stretching to is the 1.0 turbo (about 100 PS) with manual or CVT: that turbo-CVT pairing is the smoothest automatic experience in the segment, where most rivals still offer jerky AMTs at this money.
There's also a factory-approved CNG retrofit — about ₹72,000 dealer-fitted, with a 3-year/1-lakh-km warranty — a halfway house between no CNG at all and a factory line-fit. Claimed efficiency spans roughly 17.9–19.9 kmpl for petrol and around 24 km/kg on CNG.
The honest assessment
Inside, the Magnite shows where the money went — and didn't. The cabin is roomy, the boot usable, the styling confident; the plastics and infotainment are visibly built to a price. None of that is disqualifying at ₹6–9 lakh.
The genuine caveat is the badge. Nissan's India dealer and service network has shrunk to a fraction of Maruti's or Hyundai's, and resale values reflect it. Mechanically the car shares proven Renault-Nissan CMF-A+ bones and is cheap to maintain — but check the distance to your nearest service centre before you fall for the price.
The questions buyers actually ask
Magnite or Kiger? Mechanical twins. The Nissan currently holds the crash-test headline and slightly bolder styling; the Renault counters with more standard airbags kit post-facelift and a marginally larger network. Price whichever variant matches your spec on the day.
Is the NA engine acceptable? In town, yes. If you ever carry four people up a flyover with intent, buy the turbo.
Does the CNG retrofit void anything? No — it's Nissan-approved with its own warranty, unlike grey-market kits. It's MT-only and boot space takes the usual CNG hit.
